Join the Baker Lab!

I am currently looking for undergraduate researchers, as well as for graduate students to start in Fall 2027. We’re spinning up research on lichens and fungus-farming termites. There is scope for fieldwork, microbiology, molecular work, and computational research.

While I am mainly focused on getting the lichens and termites work off the ground right now, I am happy to explore other possibilities. These might include biodiversity monitoring with environmental DNA, microbial community assembly, insects, and species interactions. Please check out my previous research and publications for ideas on areas that may be of interest. You might also like to check out other biology faculty at UMass Boston for ideas on potential collaborations or joint supervision.

For students interested in pursuing a PhD, please check out the Biology PhD program with its two tracks (Environmental Biology, and Molecular, Cellular, and Organismal Biology). The Integrative Biosciences PhD program might also be of interest.

I am not currently recruiting postdocs but please get in touch if you are interested in developing an independent research proposal.

Please contact me if you think the lab might be a good fit for you!
